Interesting
note (at least to me): When I want to read up on a particular scripture,
I usually go to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops website.
Somehow I got it into my head that the Catholic Church uses the New Revised
Standard Version of the bible. So I was quoting
the Bible on the USCCB website believing it was USCCB.
It wasn't until I went to copy the last verse in this meme, "Hosea
13:16," that I realized otherwise. In the New American Bible,
Revised Edition, which is one of at least 9 English translations approved by
the Vatican for use by us mortals, is the version the USCCB is using. Even more
interesting than that is the fact that on the website for the Catholic Bishops
of the United States, Hosea 13:16 doesn't exist. It's left out.
But other approved translations of the Bible still include it, so it is the
only verse below that is copied from the NABRE.
I wonder what other verses have been left out and why. I’m too tired right now to go looking, but
maybe later.

According to the New American Bible, Revised Edition (NABRE) |
"Life begins at birth - with the first breath (Gen 2:7). |
“then the LORD God formed the man* out
of the dust of the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and
the man became a living being.” – Gen2:7 NABRE |
"Fetuses are not persons" (Ex
21:22-25). |
“When men have a fight and hurt a pregnant woman, so that she suffers
a miscarriage, but no further injury, the guilty one shall be fined as much
as the woman’s husband demands of him, and he shall pay in the presence of
the judges. But if injury ensues, you shall give life
for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.” – Ex:
21:22-25 NABRE |
Fetuses should be aborted as proof of adultery
(Numbers 5:11-31). |
“The LORD said to Moses: Speak to the Israelites and
tell them: If a man’s wife goes astray and becomes unfaithful to him by
virtue of a man having intercourse with her in secret from her husband and
she is able to conceal the fact that she has defiled herself for lack of a
witness who might have caught her in the act; or if a man is overcome by a
feeling of jealousy that makes him suspect his wife, and she has defiled
herself; or if a man is overcome by a feeling of jealousy that makes him
suspect his wife and she has not defiled herself then the man shall bring his
wife to the priest as well as an offering on her behalf, a tenth of an ephah
of barley meal. However, he shall not pour oil on it nor put frankincense
over it, since it is a grain offering of jealousy, a grain offering of
remembrance which recalls wrongdoing. The priest shall first have the woman come forward
and stand before the LORD. In an
earthen vessel he shall take holy water, as well as some dust from the floor
of the tabernacle and put it in the water.
Making the woman stand before the LORD, the priest shall uncover her
head and place in her hands the grain offering of remembrance, that is, the
grain offering of jealousy, while he himself shall hold the water of bitterness
that brings a curse. Then the priest shall adjure the woman, saying to her,
‘If no other man has had intercourse with you, and you have not gone astray
by defiling yourself while under the authority of your husband, be immune to
this water of bitterness that brings a curse.
But if you have gone astray while under the authority of your husband,
and if you have defiled yourself and a man other than your husband has had
intercourse with you’— so shall the priest adjure the woman with this
imprecation—’may the LORD make you a curse and malediction among your people
by causing your uterus to fall and your belly to swell! May this water, then, that brings a curse,
enter your bowels to make your belly swell and your uterus fall!’ And the woman shall say, ‘Amen, amen!’ “The priest shall put these curses in writing and
shall then wash them off into the water of bitterness, and he will have the
woman drink the water of bitterness that brings a curse, so that the water
that brings a curse may enter into her to her bitter
hurt. But first the priest shall take
the grain offering of jealousy from the woman’s hand, and having elevated the
grain offering before the LORD, shall bring it to the altar, where he shall
take a handful of the grain offering as a token offering and burn it on the
altar. Only then shall he have the woman drink the water. Once he has had her drink the water, if she has
defiled herself and been unfaithful to her husband, the water that brings a
curse will enter into her to her bitter hurt, and
her belly will swell and her uterus will fall, so that she will become a
curse among her people. If, however, the woman has not defiled herself, but
is still pure, she will be immune and will still be fertile. This, then, is the ritual for jealousy when a woman
goes astray while under the authority of her husband and defiles herself, or
when such a feeling of jealousy comes over a man that he becomes suspicious
of his wife; he shall have her stand before the LORD, and the priest shall
perform this entire ritual for her. The man shall be free from punishment, but the woman shall bear her
punishment.” – Num: 5:11-31 NABRE (Proof to
me that human males wrote the bible.) |
Life is not sacred (Deuteronomy 28: 18-24) |
“Cursed be the fruit of your womb, the produce of your soil and the
offspring of your livestock, the issue of your herds and the young of your
flocks! May you be cursed in your coming in and cursed in your going out! The LORD will send on you a curse, panic, and frustration in
everything you set your hand to, until you are speedily destroyed and perish
for the evil you have done in forsaking me. The LORD will make disease cling to you until he has made an end of you from
the land you are entering to possess. The LORD will strike you with
consumption, fever, and inflammation, with fiery heat and drought, with
blight and mildew, that will pursue you until you perish. The heavens over
your heads will be like bronze and the earth under your feet like iron. For
rain the LORD will give your land powdery dust, which will come down upon you
from the heavens until you are destroyed.” – Deut
28:18-24 NABRE |
God will rip open pregnant mothers-to-be (2 Kings8:12). |
“and Hazael asked, “Why are you weeping, my
lord?” Elisha replied, “Because I know the evil that you will inflict upon
the Israelites. You will burn their fortresses, you will slay their youth
with the sword, you will dash their little children to pieces, you will rip
open their pregnant women.” – 2 Kings 8:12 NABRE
|
Israelite King Menahem ripped open pregnant women (2 Kings 15:16). |
“At that time, Menahem attacked Tappuah, all its inhabitants, and its
whole district as far as Tirzah, because they did not let him in. He attacked
them; he even ripped open all their pregnant women.” – 2 Kings 15:16 NABRE |
God will kill unborn fetuses (Isaiah 13:18) |
“With their bows they shall shatter the young men, And the fruit of
the womb they shall not spare, nor shall their eye take pity on children. –.
Isaiah 12:18 NABRE |
God will destroy fetuses in utero (Hosea 9:10-16) |
Like grapes in the desert, I found Israel; Like the first fruits of
the fig tree, its first to ripen, I looked on your ancestors. But when they
came to Baal-peor and consecrated themselves to the
Shameful One, they became as abhorrent as the thing they loved. Ephraim is like a bird: their glory flies away—no
birth, no pregnancy, no conception. Even though they bring up their children, I will make them childless,
until no one is left. Indeed, woe to them when I turn away from them! Ephraim,
as I saw, was a tree planted in a meadow; But now Ephraim will bring out his children to the slaughterer! Give them, LORD! give them what? Give them a miscarrying womb, and dry
breasts! All their misfortune began in Gilgal; yes, there I rejected them.
Because of their wicked deeds I will drive them out of my house. I will love
them no longer; all their princes are rebels. Ephraim is stricken, their root is dried up; they will bear no fruit.
Were they to bear children, I would slay the beloved of their womb. –. Hosea
9:10-16 NABRE |
God will dash infants in pieces and rip open pregnant women (Hosea
13:16) |
“Samaria shall bear her guilt, because she has rebelled against her
God; they shall fall by the sword, their little ones shall be dashed in
pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open.” -- Hosea 13:16 NRSV |
